Swapfiets’ blue front tyres conquer Denmark

You can no longer ignore them, the bicycles with blue front tyres. The Dutch company that offers bicycles as a subscription, Swapfiets, is expanding to Denmark. The blue front tyres can now be spotted in the three largest cities in the country: Copenhagen, Aarhus and Odense.

The startup, founded by Delft students, is already active outside the Netherlands in five German and three Belgian cities. But the Dutch subscriptions bicycles will not only conquer Denmark this year, because Brussels and Munich are also on the schedule.

In the meantime, Swapfiets has about 53,000 customers, spread over 32 cities in Europe. At the end of this year, Swapfiets expects to have more than 100,000 subscribers, according to business insider.

For only 15 euros per month you can use a Swapfiets; students receive a 3 euro discount, including in Odense, Aarhus and Copenhagen. The company is therefore particularly active in student cities. In the event of a defect, a bicycle mechanic will arrive at home within 12 hours to ‘swap’ the bicycle with a functioning one.

Swapfiets is not the only company that offers bicycle subscriptions. The Dutch bike builder VanMoof offers a similar service. The difference is luxury and price: VanMoof offers more luxurious bicycles, but also demands a higher price.
